These six luxury cruise lines have the most extravagant suites at sea, some of which include private plunge pools and saunas with ocean views.

Grab a book from the bookcase, snuggle up on the sofa, and place an order for some caviar canapés. Alternatively, you might pop open a bottle of champagne and dive into your own plunge pool. On cruise ships, where space is always at a premium, it was previously difficult to organize lavish events like this because of octodle the limited amount of available room. However, this is starting to change as new ships with more sophisticated designs — and services to match — are making their way out into the ocean.

It is not a coincidence that these luxurious accommodations resemble high-end hotels and mansions; rather, the purpose of these upscale options is to entice vacationers who may be considering taking their first trip to an ocean or river destination. According to Josh Leibowitz, president of Seabourn, “We want you to feel as comfortable as you do at home, while getting closer to the majesty of nature. We want you to feel as comfortable as you do at home.”

When designing Seabourn's first expedition ship, the 264-passenger Venture, the cruise line was inspired by the opulence of high-end ski resorts when coming up with the ship's design. The ship's designer, Adam Tihany, who also worked on the Seabourn Encore and the Seabourn Ovation, went for high drama with the design of the ship's accommodations, which feature striking wood-paneled staterooms, tactile details such as cashmere throws, and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the ever-changing vistas. Duxiana Axion mattresses and hidden TVs can be found in the ship's Wintergarden suites’ bedrooms, while Bang & Olufsen audio technology and well-stocked wet bars can be found in the suites’ living spaces. These suites are among the most ornate accommodations that can be found at sea. When designing its elite Owner's suites, Viking Cruises took a more personal approach. The cruise line curated individual books and wine collections for passengers who booked the 1,448-square-foot apartments as part of their vacation packages. (There is one aboard each of the seven ocean ships that belong to the company.) In addition, each one has a sauna with a view of the ocean, a water vapor fireplace that replaces open flames with mist and lights, and a boardroom with 12 seats that may be used for holding catered dinner parties or business meetings.

Along with walk-in closets, hot tubs, double vanities, and personalized mini-bars, the staterooms on Silversea's newest ships, the Silver Moon and Silver Dawn, come equipped with foyers and powder rooms that give the impression of a residential setting. These ships are the Silver Moon and Silver Dawn. The Grand suites are among the most spacious accommodations available. These suites feature enormous wraparound balconies that look out over the bow and are furnished with lounge chairs.

Even larger ships are stepping up their game in terms of service and design. The Norwegian Prima, which is scheduled to make her debut in August 2022 and can accommodate 3,215 passengers, will be the first of six new boats that will incorporate a revamped version of the Haven, which is a ship-within-a-ship idea that the company initially presented in 2011. The staterooms located in that section of the ship are more spacious and offer access to a variety of private ship amenities, including as a restaurant, pool, and outdoor spa.
